2023 Jeep Wrangler, All you want to know & watch about a Great Car

All 2023 Jeep Wranglers Now Have Air Conditioning. Wait, They Didn’t Before? (Now With New Colors!)

But don’t worry, you still get your fair share of manual features.

Whereas there’s plenty of hubbub around the V-8-equipped $80,000 Jeep Wrangler 392 and how Jeep finally has stiff competition in the Ford Bronco, there’s much less chatter surrounding the other Wranglers. The bulk of the auto market may gravitate toward decked-out variants, but there’s still a place for base trims. You know, the ones that cost $30,000 and form the foundation upon which the upper-echelon trims are built. There are still stubborn Jeep guys who just want a Wrangler—just not a Wrangler weighed down with every option. Luckily, Jeep provideth.

2020 Jeep Wrangler Sport S 01

Consider this: You can theoretically buy—good luck finding one in real life, though—a brand-new two-door 2022 Jeep Wrangler Sport for $29,995 that comes standard with Uconnect 3 with an itty-bitty 5.0-inch touchscreen display and no air conditioning. Even the next trim, Willys Sport, can be had with no air conditioning. (We actually know a guy who opted for a brand-new Wrangler devoid of A/C. Absolute hero! Or just young and broke.) Luckily, you can choose to be frosty. There is the option to upgrade to Uconnect 4 with a respectable 7.0-inch touchscreen. This $1,395 option on the configurator also gets you air conditioning.

Fast-forward to model year 2023, and Jeep has implemented some changes to its bare-bones, base-trim, two-door 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sport—while only raising the MSRP by $300 to $30,295. For better or worse, it’s still base, but a little less base. Uconnect 4 with the 7.0-inch touchscreen is standard, and Uconnect 3 with the 5.0-inch touchscreen officially dies. That means standard air conditioning; all Wranglers great and small have standard air conditioning for 2023.

For those who hate the idea of A/C, crank down that manual window and leave the A/C off. Don’t panic—2023 Wrangler Sports retain standard manual door locks, manual windows, and a manual transmission behind the 3.6-liter V-6. Luckily, even the 2023 Wrangler Sport still gets the Smoker’s Group option, complete with a removable ash tray and a cigar lighter.

Although the two-door 2022 Wrangler Sport still comes standard with the smaller screen and no A/C, that’s not the case with the four-door Unlimited configuration of the same year; it made the switch to the better Uconnect, screen, and A/C for 2022. Bottom line: Doors matter.

More broadly, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler drops three trims (Sport Altitude, Sahara Altitude, and High Tide) and a few colors (Snazzberry and Gobi) but gains two new colors (Earl and Reign). Earl, a gray shade with hints of aquamarine, made its first appearance on the Jeep Gladiator Farout concept in 2020 and will be available on all Wrangler models for the whole 2023 model year. Reign, from the purple palette, is a limited-production color that can be ordered now through October. Purple last appeared on the 2018 JK Wrangler.

Pricing remains pretty stable, with the four-door Sahara seeing the biggest jump at $2,170, and some trims (four-door examples: Willys Sport, Sport S, and Rubicon) actually becoming less expensive.

These changes in standard equipment for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sport two-door help it fall more in line with the Base Ford Bronco, which has air conditioning and Sync 4 with an 8.0-inch touchscreen. But still, RIP Wranglers without A/C. You’ll always be hot.

But there are a few noteworthy ones, like some new exterior design elements. Let’s get right into the specifics of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler.

The 2023 Jeep Wrangler Gets A New Limited-Edition Freedom Package

A sleek SUV with a boxy appearance is the Jeep Wrangler 2023. The Wrangler’s excellent off-roading performance is because of its large fenders, upright construction, and short overhangs. This Jeep Wrangler is available in various body types, including a 2-door convertible, a 2-door SUV, a 4-door convertible, a 4-door SUV, and a 4-door SUT.

For a constrained period of time, the Freedom Package is available for the Wrangler and Gladiator. Jeep’s Freedom Package pays homage to the American military by including exterior and interior design cues with a military motif.

Only available on the Sport S model, the Freedom Package costs an additional $3,295. You’re looking at $37,185 for the two-door and $41,155 for the four-door unlimited with the bundle. It has interior design cues and capabilities upgrades like an American flag decal, an Oscar Mike insignia on the rear swing gate, a steel front bumper, and rock rails.

The 2023 Jeep Wrangler Gets Updated Exterior Colors and Features

The 2023 Wrangler now comes in two new updated exterior colors, Earl and Reign, with the latter having a limited run. The Jeep brand is continuing to expand its color palette. For the 2023 model year, Earl, a gray hue with elements of aquamarine first displayed on the Gladiator Farout concept car in 2020.

And it is making its debut as a production body color offered on the Wrangler portfolio. It is available right now and for the entire model year, for the price of $395. The 2023 model introduces the Reign shade of purple, which was last seen on the 2018 Wrangler.

Through October 2022, customers can select this $495 option. All clients who are fervent fans of the color purple will be drawn to the striking Reign hue, which is only available for a brief period. For that stripped-down look, the base 2023 Wrangler now has 17-inch wheels. Moreover, it comes with fog lights, tow hooks, skid plates, and manually cranked windows and door locks.

With its 7-inch touchscreen Uconnect 4 interface, the infotainment system is simple to use. Eight speakers for audio, three 12-volt power connections, two USB ports, Bluetooth, and voice control for cellphones are all included. Also included as standards are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

2023 Jeep Wrangler: Powertrains And Hiked Price

Although the Jeep Wrangler hasn’t lost its spirit of adventure or its ability to conquer rough terrain, it has become more sophisticated with time. The six powertrain options for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler are still available. The basic engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 260 lb-ft of torque and 285 horsepower. And we can pair it with either an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. With an eight-speed automatic transmission, they offer the same engine with Jeep’s eTorque mild hybrid technology.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is a plug-in hybrid powered by two electric motors and a 400-volt battery pack. The final output is 375 horsepower, 470 lb-ft of torque, and an EPA-estimated 49 MPGe fuel consumption. It also has a 21-mile battery range as a plug-in hybrid. A 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine with 442 lb-ft of torque and 260 horsepower. The Wrangler Rubicon 392 maintains the top of the range with its 6.4-liter Hemi V8. That produces 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to this engine, the Wrangler can reach 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and yet handle off-road routes with ease.

In addition, the price of the 2023 Wrangler is a little higher than the 2022 Wrangler. Because of inflation and the cost of a few new amenities, the starting price of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler starts with an MSRP of $30,295. If you wish to upgrade to the best off-roading-oriented versions with all the added luxuries, higher trim levels surpasses the $79,995 mark.
