“Emergency food aid” could soon be paid to the most modest people in France confirmed government spokeswoman Olivia Grégoire. “We want to provide an emergency maintenance allowance of 100 euros per household and 50 euros per child for 9 million people,” she said in the detail.

“We are working in addition on a more qualitative food voucher to access organic, fresh and local products,” she added. These measures are part of the purchasing power bill, which must be presented on 6 July in the Council of Ministers, before being voted on in Parliament.

€25 billion more

“We have already committed 25 billion euros since October on these support measures for the French and we will put about the same amount in the coming months,” said Olivia Grégoire, also saying she hopes for the implementation “at the beginning of the school year a specific device for heavy rollers who are forced to take their car to go to work”. The government had already announced that it would extend until at least the end of August the 18-cent fuel rebate (in mainland France), introduced since 1 April.

“While inflation is galloping, we must not trot on these subjects and we hope that the oppositions will follow us,” enjoined Olivia Grégoire. “We are reaching the peak of inflation. The good news is that it should then go down, probably towards the end of the year and the beginning of next year.”
